Viper induction kit

This carries on from my K & N filter thread but I didn't want this to get lost in that thread. Has anyone fitted a pipercross viper induction kit on their 2.9 Cosworth? If so could you explain how it fits in as i have one from a mondeo V6 that should fit but everything is so tight in engine bay, pics would be brilliant.

Bit the bullet and fitted viper kit looks and sounds good, but, how do i get a cold air feed to connect to the end? There's no room, has any one managed it or got a clever solution. As you can see at the moment the feed is sitting next to it.

Do these really make that much of a difference to the 24v?

...good question indeed. These type of devices were commonly advertised when I lived in the States,...Tornado or something or other was a popular brand, but to all my car enthusiast buddies over there they always dismissed these as being just another go-faster gimmick! Never tried one myself but have fitted cold air induction kits before. These did make a difference but usually involved only being just one part of the overall modification project and needed matching to other mods to.

Wondered if the MAF would just compensate for any difference in the air intake and restore everything to normal

| Well haven't had a real chance yet to get out to really see any difference. Made a bit of difference on mondeo (deeper induction sound, slightly better pickup). Truth is it was sat in my old mondeo and i thought it would look allright/better in the cossie, you can detect a diiference in noise driving round town as for performance, well, without taking it on a rolling road couldn't say but i'd imagine it isn't making the world of difference +3 or 5 BHP maybe(Need to get more cold air to it or the heat from engine will eat into any gains)

Hi Al, can just make out from picture of your engine bay that you've got a induction kit fitted. How are you getting cold air to it?

A system like fitted above will only give a few more bhp when the engine is in WOT, only affect other than this is the roar you get The idea is more air is sucked in so the ecu squirts more fuel in = more power. The cold air feed will give gains. A ram air effect air input would give much better gains at speed.

Why not dump the resonator box & move the maf over this would give you the room for the cold air feed (cold air is more dense so the colder it is the better) You will need this to pass emissions on a 24v but performance wise you could well do without the egr as this reduces the overall air/fuel mixture, but NOx may be to high without it !

| Thought of doing that but the MAF lead has no play in it so is restricted in movement. Haven't looked down the wire to see if it will feed a different route. Also not sure if the body the MAF is on will connect/mate where resonator currently sits? Howie sorry to sound stupid but what do you mean "WOT"? something operating temp? Anyone think of a downside/negative effect of removing resonator? As for removing EGR I know a lot of boys with Mondeo V6's have removed it and blanked off where it sat and no known problems getting through MOT's.

WOT stands for wide open throttle or in other words....pedal to the metal state. The resonator makes air turbulences thus increases the atomization of the air to fuel mixture. In theory this will give more torque, and higher power it also lowers mpg....well in theory... The EGR is verry simple to "kill" just unplug the vacuum hose o the top of it.....don't forget to put a cap on the hose because the engine will draw false air. Cheers

Just had a look and resonator connection is oval and throttle body/maf housing is round connection so might be very awkward trying to mate the 2 up without any leaks. Might have to leave as is and see how it performs, can allways refit old air box and maybe put a replacement filter i.e K&N if needed.

Right, removed the resonator box and managed to get MAF lead over far enough, cold air feed now fits over the end of Viper! Took car out and does sound very nice, only issue is i noticed that the engine temp goes up to normal then dips then goes to normal again, doesn't overheat and doesn't do it all the time just every now and then. Never noticed this before but i was checking everything more than i would normally so might have been doing it before i removed resonator just not sure. Any ideas what might be causing this? PS will post pic of completed fit later today.

hi there are you pulling on any of the wiring across the front x member? does the crack shaft breather pipe fit after the filter? you'll need to keep an eye on the MAF as oil vapor, etc will not be getting filtered now. might be an idea to plug this connector and fit a small breather filter on the end of the pipe from the shaft. you'll need to keep us posted on how it runs with the resonator removed. i've kept mine as i have the room for it.

Crank breather pipe fits straight onto Viper (See pic on earlier post) so that shouldn't be an issue. Can only imagine it must be a wiring problem, will have a look.

| Sorry I didnt answer this earlier cossieguy. as yet I havnt fitted any cold air ducting and I reckon the benefits are lost as the engine bay warms up especialy on hot days. on my last car I fitted a vent into the front spoiler but that wont work with the scorp. I was toying with the idea of a pair of saphire cosworth bonnet vents or even a scoop but not sure if I am man enough to take the nibbler to my bonnet

Well, the temp gauge thing must have been a glitch as just been on a 30 min drive and it didn't move from centre of meter. The pick up on the car is definately improved and feels better now the cold air feed is in place so it's a sealed unit. No initial concerns over removing resonator, will post if anything weird starts to happen but for the moment very happy.

Quick update, had starter motor replaced so battery came off, now the ECU is learning from scratch with the viper on, the MPG has improved! Surprising but true, pick up and power definatley better, no idle problems. Is this down to the fact there is no restriction on the air flowing i.e hasn't got to swirl around in resonator before going into engine. Would now be interested to see what effect a superchip or the like would have with all this extra air coming in? I know when i had a chip and the viper on my V6 mondeo the outcome was brilliant but £295 is a lot of money at the moment. Has anyone chipped their 24V? if so is it worth it?
