I've had a few problems with pinking recently (as most of you know). I have replaced various parts:- EGR, IAT, FRPR etc, but still I have pinking. I had a new front crankshaft oil seal & lower timing chain cover fitted last week (had oil leak). I did ask the mechanic whether it could be due to a timing chain slipping a cog, & he said that can cause it, but in your case...no...the chains are spot on. (new engine's only done 44,000 miles). The bits I have replaced so far seem to alleviate the problem for a short while but it always comes back again. The weird thing is that the pinking is not as bad as it was before I started replacing various bits. At the moment it only pinks sometimes on light acceleration at low speed (20-30mph). I'll get to the point now. Are PCMs inter-changable? The reason I ask is 'cos I have a spare 2.3 PCM. If I take the PCM out, & replace it with the spare PCM, will the car still run as normal?

I see no reason why. I would try the ecu rather than the pcm.
