auto gearbox problem

my cosworth ultima gearbox died, so had it recondition, so far it has been back and forward to the garage with problems, the main culprit is banging into 3rd gear, then while cruising will drop not into 3rd gear but kinda sit between 3rd and 4th, then when you lift your foot of the gas it goes back into 4th, now this only happens when the engine is totaly upto temp, when it is cold it is great, but now im getting fedup, ive had no cossie for a month and the garage is getting  quite annoyed.
this has cost me £900, now someone has said to me it sounds like the radiator is blocked, but how do i prove this without them ripping me off for a new radiator for about £300 maybe more, help me please.........................................................

hi there

was the torque convertor changed at the same time as the gearbox? sounds like it isn't locking up. Undecided

also check that all temp sensors are ok, as the gearbox doesn't lock while cold.

hi there

have you had a obd-2 scan done? it might bring something up.

still would have a look at all wiring. '95 wasn't a good year for wiring. Wink

the obd-2 scan which i saw done a while back, i think on its second return, through up the emergency code, ie, running in emergency code so as not to go into 4th gear.
also i dont know if this any help, but when the car is a driving temp, the wings and front of the car are very hot, sometimes to hot to touch, which why i think it maybe the radHuhHuhHuhHuh??

Have the garage checked the number 3 shift solanoid, that would explain a code. Then again the other problems dont seem to have bearing on this.

well today i replaced the VSS sensor and can tell you now that mine was as rough as hell, felt like it was turning on a lump of grit, well i used a old one that was still in my old 2litre box as they all the same and a new one would cost £69, but anyway, it still dosnt go in fourth gear although the speedo isnt eractic anymore and also with changing the MAF sensor aswell its got all of its glorious power back, but whistlest undernegh we found a OIL LEAK, yes you guessed it ive got gear oil coming out of the bell housing, so i suppose you could say that the gearbox company do not know what they are doing, please tell me if you like to know who they are so you should not make the mistake of going to them with your cossie.

so next week i shall be drafting up the paperwork for the small claims court to get my £900 back from them, as now they wont even speak with me  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
