Hi, Can anyone help?
A misfire developed on my M reg 2l 16v Scorpio.
Have changed the plugs and coil packs.
Took plugs out of 2 and 3 cylinders and they smell of petrol.
Have changed damaged wires to coil packs, dont know what to do next?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is it missing all the time, or just under load ??

I just had a mis-fire on my 2.3 which developed overnight, I found that it was the number 1 plug lead by having the engine running, and with a pair of insulated pliers pulled the No. 1 lead off (which made no differance) then pulled the No. 3 lead off (stopped the engine). then tested the no. 1 lead for continuity with a multi meter and as there was non replaced the lead and it was problem solved

hope your's turns out to be that simple as well

hi thanks for the quick response. have tried the leads, coil packs, plugs. taken 2 and 3 plugs out but they smell of petrol.  lots of smoke out the back when running.  The engine wont idle, you have to put your foot on the accelerator or it just cuts out, have taken no 3 plug lead off when running but no difference? with petrol on the 2 plugs i know its not firing on 2 and 3.

I had this problem on the same engine type in the past.

It proved to be faulty section of wiring loom to the coilpacks, where the loom runs between the back of the engine and the coilpacks.   It was very hard to detect so, in addition to earlier offered advice, I suggest you visually double check the condition of those wires feeding the coilpacks

Good luck with it

If you did the wiring ok now would be a good time to check the compresion, head gasket may be blown between 2&3

unlikely to be ecu, sounds simple but the leads are round the right way?, firing order? now that you've been changing stuff? take the plugs out and conect them to the spark leads, earth the plug to the block and check the spark is getting as far as the plugs. then if you have fuel and spark and conpression it can only be timing? check firing order?

The plug leads are in the only order they can go in as far as I know, they have to go in a certain way!?
