Beeing a prefaclif (as most ) My lights are a little BRIGHT even when off  
 
At £125 a pice for replacement new l8 spec ones I aint going to do that, and even S/H ones seem to demand a good price..
 
So has anyone attemped opening the lamp unit and sparying the non reflector part a darker colour?

Try reading   THIS . Severalmembers have carried out the 'conversion' by spraying.

Perhaps I could do them in dark green to colour code with the body... A bit of experimentation may be in order..

Well, I'm not sure about spraying the headlamps but I managed to strip down the fogs to respray the reflectors, not easy but it can be done Smiley.

Twin turbo, just ordered 2 facelift head light covers (Glass and dark inner bit so you keep original unit just replace front end. £116 including delivery from ford parts uk. These are original Ford items brand new.Part numbers are 1042841 R/H  
and 1042842 L/H. Trevor was very helpful and answered all my questions very promptly : trevor@fordpartsuk.com
Hope this might help you or anyone else, Guy.
Will post to let you know what they're like when they come (5 working days).

Mine cost less than £10 and my time, Paint about £5-£6 and a tube of black silicone from a uPVC supplier, Around £2-£3.

If I remember right, there's 3 clips around the edge of the unit, you need a long bladed screwdriver to get at them, the lens/rubber trim comes off together with the front part of the bezel. The bezel is bonded to the lens with...how can I say this...STRONG adhesive, carefully prise the two apart and slit the adhesive with a scalpel as you go along. Did my front fogs like this, not easy but it does look nice when done.

Once you can get between the glass and the plastic, I put a piece of nylon string in and used a sawing action to break the seal very easily. Black silicone or clear can be used but try to keep them off the car until it drys!
