A Couple Of Questions About Wishbones

1) Has anybody ever used a secondhand wishbone - is it worth the saving that it brings ??
2)Is it advisable to replace the rear bush at the same time ??
3)Is it really as simple as it seems, just undo 6 bolts & it's off (as long as the bolts ain't seized)
4)How often are the bolts seized ??
5) any other advise ??
reason I ask is my estate has just failed the mot on both the ball joints and I'm weighing up my options, but reading a thread in another section leads me to believe that there is beginning to be a shortage of these things

I've used "nearly new" wishbones taken from one car and put onto another with no problems, I believe old front bushes probably need burned out.
Rear bushes are fairly easy to replace at any time and can be done easily with the wishbone still on the car.
Ive removed about 5 pairs on different cars and never had a bolt sieze

I too was fearful of seized bolts, but when I replaced my wishbone it was plain sailing and trouble free.
You'll need a Torx socket for the pinch bolt and a good set of sockets ( always use 6 point sockets rather than 12 point, less chance of bolt rounding trouble ) and ratchets and extentions.

i would go to fmd and buy new pinch bolts first,i have just changed the arms on two fiestas[wash my mouth out with soapy water]and as i found out the pinch bolts just bang out with a punch/drift because the torx is there to hold the bolt when you tighten the nut.hth

The nut is not meant to take the full strain, hence the threaded hub. However....
The torx round of and have to be line drilled often kiling the threads in the hub.

I've never found one threaded into the hub.
Every one ive removed just holds by the nut and punches out like Solarpanel said.
The bolt that holds the strut onto the top of the hub is threaded in, is that the one you were thinking of?

I was going on the 4x4 sierra. The part number for the pinchbolt is the same as the l8 model escorts. these are stepped and threaded to go into the hub.
Perhaps they found this was overkill..
