Alarm Flashers

Having trouble with alarm sounding off for no reason when car is locked, but this isn't the problem. Looking out my window at the row of cars I can only guess that it's my car that is sounding off as the flashers don't flash . Is this yet another faux pas by the Scorp designers or is it just my car ?

I think it's the boot switch , as its dash indication flickers on and off. I've tested the alarm system by the usual means ( much to the displeasure of the neighbours, whose noisy, brattish and evil progeny I have to suffer all Summer, but thats another novel ) however it 's possible to remote lock the car while the bonnet is up, and no alarm will sound, however, if you give the bonnet switch a few presses off it goes!!!! Weird

Maybe the bonnet has to be shut for the system to be "set" then when you press it down it arms and goes off when the switch is released. Costs 1 hour on Fords computer for the indicators to flash - had it done a while ago

Bad microswitch in the boot lock You could try squirting it full of WD40 and working it a few times, I haven't had the pleasure of pulling the boot lock to bits (yet ), probably the switch is corroded as is the bonnet switch. Mine flashes, had the same problem as you a while back where it kept triggering in car parks, that was the offside rear door though . The flashing feature may be down to the year, never known another car not to though... Bruce.

Hi all, When I got mine the bonnet switch was unplugged for reasons that were never explained, in fact alarm & dashboard flasher never worked all while previous owner had it, as this switch had always been unplugged! Just to make sure it was OK I took it apart, scraped the contacts & greased with vaseline, also checked it out with an ohmmeter. It's actually a sliding contact so it's supposed to be self cleaning - up to a point! Depends how much muck / oxidation...

Hi All, The flasher function can be switched on or off in the ecu by Ford FDS 2000 as Dave says. It appears early models were programmed to do this and later ones weren't. Same thing re the pressing bootlid button twice, it can be programmed to open on one push, and also to open or not depending on ignition on / off, taxis usually programmed for boot open whilst engine running and non taxis not !! Cheers Dave

Tracey, just read Dave2302's post above yours. I'll be quizzing my local FMD about the chances of re-programming my alarm system.

I got an FDS2000 and you can turn the flashers on or off and the boot thing is good too! The Fiord guys have the WDS and the even newer one (which I can't remember!)

Mine locks the vehicle on one press of the remote button with no flash and on two presses it then deadlocks the car and flashes. If the bonnet switch is not working or disconnected no flash signal will be given at all, even after two presses of the remote button. The inabilty to open the boot whilst the engine is running is a good security idea but in practice I do find it to be a pain in the rump. Mike

<<<<I got an FDS2000 and you can turn the flashers on or off and the boot thing is good too!>>> So anyone with an OBD laptop thingy ( my poor grasp of car technology is all too apparent ) can change the settings ? Or is it more complicated ?

No, the FDS2000 is the full unit as used by the trained monkeys at the Ford dealers. It can change settings and do lots of other stuff like ABS, PCM interrogations etc. etc. (apparently)
