*BOTH* HO2S non-op?

Greetings all, MOT time last week on our '95 2.0l 16V, failed on exhaust emissions, all over the shop - referring to the very same 'HO2S Monitor' pages from this actual site (the system works!) we/I suspected HO2S - for example, temporary 'misfiring' like symptom which goes away after a few minutes & which it's been doing for a while, matches wot it says in blurb about front sensor. So my mechanic bloke then transferred car to Ford expert he knows having FDS2000 etc. Turns out today had to have BOTH HO2S (front & rear) renewed to restore proper emissions again - this worked, i.e. wasn't just bad wiring or anything like that. However Ford bloke also reckons cat is on its last legs also, & most likely why only just passed 2nd time. So maybe new cat next time, which probably means complete new exhaust since present once looks original (if so, is >10 yrs old!) and so will probably disintegrate as soon as someone tries to take it apart, apparently... I should start saving up now... Anyway, has anyone else had both sensors pack up like this? Front one looked like it'd been a fairly new replacement, the rear grubby enough to be original. My mechanic's guess is most likely because exhaust is generally clagged with dross from not being used enough (always nagging me about that! Put another record on Jeff...) Anyroad up, he had a good suggestion which is to occasionally let the fuel tank go really low, then bung in a bottle of injector cleaner for a dose of the old dyno-rod/ex-lax treatment on the way to the next fill-up. PS: £275 for two new HO2 sensors!

I was quoted £101-92 inclusive today by Ford Main Dealer for a sensor so your figure is about correct if they fitted them etc. They are available much cheaper than that which is no doubt why TT is having a fit!!.

HO2 Sensors also known as LAMDA can be obtained as aftermarket replacements no where near that price you quote £101.92 obtainable from here http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/lambda-sensors.php . Apparentl;y a bit of a P1g to do but doable IMHO ...

As Snoopy and I say they are avaliable cheaper. I successfully recovered one from a 'scrapper' with a 22mm ring spanner but it would be easier with the proper sockets shown on the Cats Direct site due to the restricted access under the bonnet. The pre and post cat sensors are the same. I removed the post cat sensor on mine quite easily and as far as I know it was original (N reg). In looking into this subject it appears that the Scorp uses 'Planar' sensors which are listed on the Gendan site as £46-95 for 'universal'or £76 95 for direct fit. (Includes delivery and VAT)

Thanks for the link, might be useful in future. Maybe it's because I live in the south east, everyone assumes we're rich down here!
