Up the local breakers today getting a couple of bits for the wifes Mondeo. The owner had an 2.3 Scorp as well so we got chatting. He reckons that by dissconecting the vacuum pipe from the throttle & plugging both ends up, it runs better & he is getting about 30mpg around town, where-as before he was getting about 25mpg. Just one question....Does anyone know why?......or is he talking tripe

Don't go there Engine running lean=heat=faliure One of the big killers on the Jag V12 block, fault in the injection system makes the mixture lean, with that amount of power (450nm) going through the block, the cylinders and pistons overheat, totalled engine. If it was that good, Ford would've done it too

That drops the fuel rail pressure on over run, and drops it about half a bar at tickover (on mine). So if you disconnect it the pressure will stay high. Maybe a perforated diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator, letting petrol into the manifold? Dave

Cheers guys.. I did mention to him that the frpr may not be working properly, but he just dismissed that notion with a wave of his hand. Also, he didn't offer to let me check out his mpg reading on the dash......30 mpg around town in a 2.3....hmmmm.....I thought mine doing 25 mpg stop/start/move up rank/ stop/start/move up rank/get 2 mile job/back to rank etc was pretty good P.S...The yard he owns is a Ford spares....but he never has any Scorp bits. Seeing as he owns a Scorp then you think he'd have a few spares...........probably keeps them for himself .... Nice guy though...dirt cheap parts for cabbies wive's Mondeos
