Dash out, how?

To carry out further checks on my temperature gauge wiring continuity, I would like to remove the instrument panel. I notice on the TIS site they are seeking more information on doing this, yet an exploded line diagram and explanation makes it all sound easy.

I had no bother with the Granada's panel, so what might be involved in this one please?

What problems are you having with the gauge? I've just repaired mine so might be able to assist.

The actual gauge plus the LCD version in the dash diagnostics wander about between normal and cold, despite the engine being up to temperature. I've shorted the plug on top of the sender to ground, which should make gauge go to maximum, but it doesn't. So i'm looking to check the wire between sender and the back of the intrument panel and /or check the panel PCB itself out.

The cruise control modules plug pins were oxidised, now cleaned up. This is located below the dash / over your right shin, so I fancy the gauge problem might be due to a similar problem from moisture.

The bulk head is like new and perfectly clean, so my best guess is the moisture is from wet feet in winter.

Had exactly the same fault symptoms with the gauge as you have, replaced the sender and carried out removal of air from coolant system everything now fine, would really suspect the sender as quite a few have gone u/s on this site. See my thread "Suspect air lock" for more details about getting new sender and how to remove any air from system. The sender was £5 for me but some have sourced cheaper from other suppliers, might be easier than dismantling the dash. Take heed of my warnings about letting the engine cool before removing sender!
