Remote fault

I recently bought a good working remote from swannee0 who also gave me FOC a second one suggested to be faulty.

I have just got around to trying to sort out and test the faulty one and its problem which might be of interest...

I put a new pair of cells in found it still didn't work and was in the process of borrowing the rubber button pad from the working one, to test out the possibilty that it might be the buttons to blame. On reopening the faulty one, I found that the cells were quite warm - so I imediatly suspected the electronics were faulty.

On closer inspection I noticed that the small tongue of intended to take the +ve from the far side of the cells round to the small PCB contact, leaned over the -ve side of the upper cell - quite effectively shorting the cells out, hence the heat.

Once the small contact had been straightened out, the remote worked perfectly.

Looking edge on
It was like this...

Another curiosity I have noticed whilst playing about with remotes is that if a remote has already been set up with the car and you set it to accept another remote, if no remote is pressed within the pairing period the original remote(s) will still work just as before - the setting is not lost until you actually press unlock on a different remote.

In other words as we already knew - All remotes have to be paired with the system in one go.

I suppose this feature is designed to ignore anyone playing about with the keys in the and accidently loosing the pairing with the remote -clever these Scorps!
