2.3 litre clutch change

I'm changing the clutch on my 2.3 and following the Ford instructions from this site. I've reached the point where I lower the gearbox and remove the bell housing bolts. My problem is that the gearbox hasn't dropped much and I can't access the upper bolts. The problem seems to be that the engine sump is hitting the cross member, preventing the engine-gearbox rotating any further. I guess this is because the instructions are written around the 2 litre but the 2.3 is taller . I've tried slackening the engine mounts and jacking up the front of the engine, which helped a bit but not enough. Has anyone out there changed a 2.3 clutch? How did you get round this problem? Thanks
