Help !!! Later Edit: second scorpio (Cosworth)

Hello to all
Sorry for the long story but please read

As you all probably know i have a 2.3 16v Scorpio. With proper maintenance (and a verry small budget) i have been able to restore it to a better shape than it was. It took me about 2 years to make it ok.

Now i am facing a new chalange

My parents had a "dacia supernova"....a romanian car powerd by a clio engine which had a laguna gearbox.....
....lets' say it wasn't a "car"

They now have sold it. I thought of something, giveing them the 2.3 and and with the money from the dacia and with a substantial difference of cash to buy another scorpio, this time the "dream version" meaning you guess what .....a cosworth.

The problem is that things got from bad to worse. The car that i want to buy stood un-moved for about 3 months, the battery was flat. Now the battery has been charged and it's running. Today it's owner took it to the MOT, it passed on all but one problem, emissions were way to big. It shoud have been a 0.5 and it was 2 .....4 times more than normal. The car was put on the OBD, no fault codes, engines purrs and smooth as silk, accelerates like crazzy, full of torque...etc. Gearbox changes perfect, verry smooth etc. The cat's weren't hit and they don't chuffle, so they don't seem to be totaly out of order. The car has about 85.000 miles on the clock, has some partial service history, has now shock absorbers, new steering rack, letaher interior (nice and clean), cd-changer with 7000 series radio, new oxigen sensors. It was well looked after and belongs to another member on this forum which wrote of the fuel pressure regulator problem on the cossie that wouldn't start when hot. Eaven with the bad FPR which was pouring way to much fuel, the car did pas MOT (2 years ago), and soon after that it was fixed. Beside this it has the "specific chain rattle", but has a prelube kit that makes it rattle just for a small time. The cosworth's are verry rare in Romania, and this one was well maintained.

What should i check.....the price of a new cat is way beyond my budged....and i need two of them (aprox. 1200 euros)

Thank You !!!

Later edit: (a lot of typing errors fixed  Grin)

Hi there,

its worth checking that there are no air leaks around and underneath the inlet manifolds as this can upset the fuelling. This includes the lines, gaskets and O rings.

How does it idle?

Cheers

The state blue cossie looks lovely, the 7 spokes really suit the Scorpio I think, as much as the 12's do. That's how mine looks when it's clean, when it gets a clean he says...

Regards, Bruce.

p.s. A side on shot of one of the wheels would be great to use for the model if you get the time Octavian, would be appreciated Wink

Cheers Cheesy. Just need a decent square-on image I can airbrush into a good texture for the wheels on the Racer Scorpio with Richard's front bodykit. When I get them meshed you'll be able to see them in rendered up in 3D Wink

OK, i need a few advices and not to open a new thread i'll continue here.

My cossie has the timing chain rattle. On the car it has been fitted a pre-lube kit, which is a pressure tank that holds oil. When i flick a switch it makes almoust instant oil presure and fills up tensioners. Well the problem is that eaven using this device on cold mornings the rattle staies for half a second to 2-3 seconds. In this moment i don't have the cash to get the problem fixed (change chains, blades, tensioners). My question is what oil will be better ? higher viscosity will drain harder but takes longer to pressure up, thin oil builds faster the prssure but also will probably darin in a shorter time. I know that ford recomands 5W-30, i was thniking of choosing 0W-40 for example, to give better protection at startup....

PS: Bruce, haven't forgot about pictureing the rims, but i had some verry busy days and now they are also verry verry dirty..... Tongue

When was the oil last changed? You may find that an oil change using a decent brand and good filter cures it. Changing the oil and filter every 3-4k on mine quietened it considerably, making me think it didn't have good enough oil in before.
