Hi guys i'm thinking of giving my car a treatment of waxoyl and would appreciate any views or advice on the stuff. Is it worth getting a specialist to do it or are the home kits just as good? Is it worth getting it done at all? Cheers for any advice

Well worth doing if you are going to keep it,most areas can be done with out much trouble but a high pres. spray is best you could probaly hire all you need!.You need to do~ behind rear bumper, fuel tank, rear chassis & around rear spring mounts, fuel lines (grease above rear axle),rear arches(i grease under the lip) sills inside all box sections chassis & sills bottoms of A posts & front wings, chassis behind head lights & any where else you see fit , car should be dry for a few days & use a mask! waxoil is £26ish per 5ltr pos 2 tins, hope this helps

Hold it mate... We have an Essex Tony and now we have a Swiss Tony? Are you two related? Good idea about the Waxoyl, keep thinking about doing mine but it sits on the gravel most of the time nowadays, don't keep her like I used to... Still gotta do the...no, lets keep on topic this time... Do it yourself and yes it is good, had the Capri done 11 years ago and it's stood a decade in a very damp garage with NO rust, show me another untouched 1982 Capri with no tin scabs to show for its vintage Regards, Bruce.

There used to be another 'Swiss Tony' on here....& it wasn't that long ago (a few months back). I remember all the comments like.... "driving a Scorpio, is a bit like making love to a beautiful woman...." etc Back on topic..... Waxoyl is great stuff....It will definately protect your chassis for years to come. I coated the chassis of my Mk1 Granny with it about 8 years ago, & it hasn't needed welding since I used a thick brush & put it on thick (about 5mm)....be careful not to get it on the exhaust though

just waxoyled my ultima last week, bought 5lts tin in halfords about £17 used shultz gun in my mates garage(air line gun)very impressed with the results, done inside all chassis members and make sure you get in the rear wheel arches tight down,a must to do round the fuel tank welded seals , a common area for rust , why did ford fit wheel arch protectors to the front arches but not the rear doesn,t make sense really,i also recommend to power wash the wheel arches before applying and allow at least a day to dry before applying ,not really a messy job and it sticks to all parts a treat

| They did fit liners to both front AND rear arches, might yours have been removed by a previous owner?

my car was just under three years when i got it and has never had rear wheel arch protectors on|||incidentally my 16year old granada has them on both front and rear arches, i suppose they were removed by some one before i got it, although it did make it easier to apply the waxoyl well into the rear arches, thanks for that neil

Perhaps they ran out of them at the end of production and could not be bothered to wait for re-stocking... TT
