new cat needed?

i'm having a problem with me baby, from start slight whistle front passenger side, clears after fifteen seconds, it also has some trouble going up inclines and when accelerating, sports mode not illuminating or kicking in, slight burning? smell from side of cat area through edge of bonnet after a run, car has recently had a major overall, maf cleaned, flew through mot with emissions perfect, scanned no codes showing any faults. sports mode may be down to some 'bits' working their way into console (kids crisps etc;) will strip this down and clean it up. i was wondering if my problems could be down to the cat and possible muck or something sticking and burning off and blocking gases which may be affecting the running? a new cat may be the answer, if anyone can offer any advice i'd appreciate it. many thanks
