Wing Mirrors

Just out of interest, has anyone changed their Wing Mirrors for ones that will fold back against the car when parking in congested streets?

Just interested to see if anything else will fit, as my new job means on street parking, and it's a bit narrow for comfort in places.

Like to see what I can do, preferably BEFORE White Van man takes them off  Smiley

They do fold flat mate, but you have to do it manually. Electric folding ones are a good idea though.

Mabye the best donor cars to source some from would be German cars, quite a few people have retro fitted them to 3 Series Beemers, you get a few floating around scrappies nowadays. All I'm thinking about is the memory function getting messed by the new motors if there's not a position sensor inside. The XJ has folding mirrors and the memory/reverse dip function, from what I've seen of it already there's a lot of Ford electrical parts in there; if you strike lucky and find a 1995 onwards XJ X300 with the powerfold mirrors in your local scrappie it may be worth a look.

I think that the Peugeot 307 folds it wing mirrors when you lock it, at least the one we have here at work does anyway, not sure if it is across the range.

Thanks Bruce. I know they fold back slightly, but I wanted to get them to go further back than they actually do.

I think I'll just have to live with it.....and park carefully! Shocked

If Ford Europe were still making  Scorpios  Huh   ( we can but dream, what would they look like now ?)

Electronic folding back mirrors would have been a standard fitment by now

The Lincoln and Mercury sedan models in the US  have them.

My wife had them on her MR2 when she had it, and they are brilliant. You can fold them back automatically when going down really narrow lanes with oncoming traffic, of which we have a very large number in Devon.

I don't really want to start messing with mirror electrics on my Scorpio if I'm honest. Might just lead to other problems.

Are any sold for the Mondeo? Seen a few with Merc style flashers in the mirrors, I'm sure these also fold back. May cost you a few £££ but would take less fitting than the ones off an XJ or Peugeot. Mine do fold flat against the window, I know from the day I walked out and found it flattened against the window by a passing driver Angry.

The ones in the Mondeo are spring loaded, what's the sense in that I ask myself? They get thumped on the gate post and then bounce back even harder Undecided

I still think the local scrappie is your best bet Wink

hi there

the scorpio ones are spring loaded too!

they shouldn't fold flat as such. they should click into the spring thing in the mirror. should take a fair slap to move it off the spring.
