hi Ive got my car looking and feeling the way i want now..lovely pro sound deadening insulation and infinity set up.. gearbox nice and no real faults to worry about ..so now Im going mad!! I need a bit more power out of her ..sometimes with 3 adults in her and hills she hasnt got it!! 1) Thinking of complete engine swap to a cossie...how much grief will this be and cost? Im on lpg at mo 2) modify the existing engine with str8 thru exhausts ..cams perhaps an air filter systems? can i get 30bhp more out of this 2.3 lump without killing it or risking head gasket What does eveyone think? Cossie transplant or modify the 2.3?? I dont wanna buy a cosworth car as i have spent loads on alloys suspension ..and top brakes for my car..not to mention infinitys Thanks

You could try fitting the 2 litre 16v diff to it which would give you better accelaration. I did that on a 24v and its a BIG difference, you wouldn't see as big a difference with the 2.3 but its a low cost "power" upgrade I went from the 3.64 to the 4.27 you would be going from the 3.91 to the 4.27 The engine transplant is a big job but possible, you need to swap probably the entire drive train, brakes/ABS/traction control/suspension/instruments and all the electrical nightmares PATS etc

Hey Not only would you have to fit all the runing gear off the cossie you would have to re-home some of the 2.3's standard equipment, the abs unit comes to mind, you would more then likely have to extend the pipework and the electrical connection. looking under my cossie's hub then looking under my 2.3's hud, theres more to it then just dropping it in and modding the mounting points...not a job i'd wanna do , i have a complete 2.9 12v and box and a cossie lump fully stripped down (i think i might have a thing for v6's ) and the size diffrence to the 2.3 is rather on the large side. I reckon what Higlander did, get hold of a 4.27 diff from a 2 litre. Might not be a massive difference but would help the 2.3 where it stumbles; my car is the same, it doesn't like being loaded up on hills, I've thought about it myself Squeezing more power out of the engine itself may not be a great idea, the way it seems is that the 2.3 is pushed enough to the limit already, the thought of cracked heads on the A12 in rush hour keeps me awake at night... Regards, Bruce.

Stafford is yours a manual? If so the 4.27 diff won't make much difference mate, if a auto then it will be abit better.

Nitrous would give you a nice boost Didn't someone post a link a while ago to a 2.3 with a turbo? I'd have thought swapping the alloys, suspension etc onto a cossie be a whole lot easier/quicker than doing an engine swap? Matt
