i,ve just renewed my tyres on the scorp, replaced the continentals with pirelli p7,s and ive noticed a significant difference in noise levels,ie tyre noise.they are the same size 225-50-zr16,s. even the contis which were well worn were a lot quieter than these new pirelli,s, has any one else had experiences with different tyres on their scorp.?

Mine has had Michelins since i've had it but i know on my wifes old car that when we put pirellis(P6000's) on the road noise went up! Also wasn't too impressed with the traction in the wet, so we avoid them now.
Guy.
PS. The Michelin HP's i've got on the Cossie are excellent tyres and pretty quiet too.

Not impressed with the pirellis on my cosworth but the contis on the back seem to wear and grip well, will be investing in another pair soon unless some one comes up with better ones.

hi there

i like Vredestein Sportrac2, but they're getting a bit pricey at about £100 fitted.

i'm now running kumho ku31's on the rear of my estate. i think they are very good, given the price (£80 fitted).

Pirellis are known for their noise - and I've got 4 of them! People turn and look at the car when I approach - don't know if its the tyre noise, the purring engine or the appreciative look at the Scorp.  Undecided

Will be changing to Michelins or something similar when the time comes.

Done a very similar thing to you Neil.

Used to have Conti's on mine which I thought were great (although others slated them).
At replacement time, I was in a bit of a hurry and unable to get them again. So I ended up fitting Pirelli P6000.

First thing I noticed was the increased noise  Sad

Mind you, you do get used to it and I have to say, the Pirellis are wearing an awful lot better than the Conti's did.

car was fitted with kumho,s when i got it and they wore very quickly, i liked the conti,s but were a bit pricey on renewal thats why i plumped for the pirelli,s, find the grip good in the dry but not so clever in the wet. i had a granada 2.0ltr ghia x that went thro a set of good year eagles in 25,000 mls ,they were replaced with uniroyals and they got me thro 59,000mls quite astonishing really as when they were replaced they was still a few miles left on them

My 6000`s are wearing out real quick. The rears are wearing in the middle and the fronts on the outside (MK roundabouts?). I`ve also taken to driving the beast with o/d off and sport mode on Grin How much do the Michelins work out at? Undecided

Sounds like you've overinflated the rears and underinflated the fronts, mate  Wink

Agree  about the overinflated rears. That sounds highly likely.

Also very likely, if you're in Milton Keynes, is the roundabout theory. They soon knock the edges off the fron tyres.

I'd have a changearound and let down the rears a bit.

I've got a set of Contis on the XJ Sport and the ride is very nice, even though it has the lowered suspension/damper setup from the XJR...

16" rims like on the Scorpio, the tyres are a profile size larger though, 55 opposed to 50. Ride is much better over bad roads than the Nexens (glorious Korean stuff, eh Roll Eyes) that I had fitted to the Scorp.

Oh, it was the outer sides that were wearing on the fronts. Don't think they're underinflated then, but the tracking may be off. Still think the rears are overinflated  Wink

Mine was (tracking) and it ate the outer edges off the tyres like it was roasted marshmallows  Smiley

Changed ours (Cossie) about six months ago to Falken ZIEX Z6512 at about £64 a corner, fitted & balanced, also had tracking done. Well impressed with them, a lot quieter than the mix and match that were on before. Guy that fitted them mentioned that is normal for tyres to wear as mentioned and if we went back after about 12 months, he would swap them back to front foc.

I put a set of Goodyear F1's on back in June and they appear to be pretty good so far.
