Cossie Specialist in Birmingham

Hi all
Does anyone of a Scorpio Cosworth specialsist in Birmingham ?
I've just bought one and I need a few things checked and I'd like that done by someone who knows what they are doing.
I could take it Bristol Street Motors but are they the best ?
What choice do I have ?

Well I bought a Cossie 'R' reg with 54k miles on it the 8th in London. Drove it home to Birmingham
The Heater Matrix was supplying heat, not ultra hot but quite warm and satisfactory.
The oill , water etc were ok when we left.
On the Monday I drove to Great yarmouth to work and back again on the Thursday. Checked the oil and it needed about half a litre of water.
Haeter seemed ok.
Drove around on the weekend and drove to Great Yarmouth on Monday checked the water when I got down there and had to put a Litre in. Heater Matrix definitely not so hot by now.
Drove back toninght in the cold fog, hardly any heat when driving. Got home. Went out to the shops driving slowly and low and behold heat started coming through, not a lot but enough to warm the interior.
I had a 1994 Scorpio Cossie Estate that had Head gasket problems that started like this. There was a leak inside the gasket allowing pressurised air into the water system that then found its way the heater matrix and forced water out through the pressure vent. I just hope history isn't repeating itself and that I've got an air lock from the first top up.
I need to get the matrix flushed out, Filled properly and then the whole system filled properly and then do a pressure test to see if there are leaks from any hoses, connectors or pipes. If there are that could explain it. If not then I need to be able to prove it is a head gasket problem in order to claim under the warranty I was given.
That's why I want to find a Cossie specialist in Brum or the West Mids.

Tony, it's been mentioned several times on here that flushing the matrix doesn't work, the only cure 99% of the time is to fit a new one...I know Jonnycab and others have done so, they will be able to help you more.
Any leaks you can see? When the matrix starts to go it sometimes leaks into the footwells.

I have gone through the process of changing the heater matrix myself and can tell you that it's well worth the effort.
However, as I say to everyone, DO NOT accept as truth from anyone that tells you the heater matrix for the Scorpio is the same as the one fitted to the Sierra,...this is NOT the case.
The matrix for the Sierra does have the same external dimensions as the Scorpio one but the correct Scorpio matrix uses a different design core system.
Most motor factors and even some rad specialists will try to tell you that the Sierra one is the right unit but don't part with your money.
I used a company in Bedfordshire called Kempston Radiators. Very helpful and no nonsense service. I think they deliver anywhere and their prices are about average.
Check my former posts as I did submit a full brief on this issue and the correct info for the right matrix should be listed.

If I need to replace the matrix can it be done from the front or do your have to remove the the inside of the thingypit to get at it ?

Tony, it's done from inside but you need to remove best part of the dash to get at it, quite a few hours work.

That's what I thought. How much damage gets done to padding and quieting stuff in doing that ?
I had to have one done on a Granada mk3 Cossie some years ago and that was a right pain. All the tape and foam around the middle air vents came apart and it leaked air from there ever since
I think I'll try flushing it out first, Doesn't realy matter if we flush the whole cooling system through at the time as long as we end up with the right antifreeze mix.
At least I'll know then I've got clean water in it and will be able to see any traces of anything that appear.

Just a thought, you could disconnect the heater matrix hoses, back flush with lots of water, then get something similar to this http://www.cillitbang.co.uk/sf2_a.shtml . Mix it with water and pour this through the matrix. When liquid starts to get on the other side put a plug on it and hold the solution for 20-30 minutes. After this back-flush again....with tons of water!!! I did this to a clogged Renault radiator, and it made it work like new. You can’t imagine how much dirt could get out, which with back flushing it won’t.

how to get there j10 on the m6 head down the black country root take the 3rd exit off to island take the 2 exct off ,,keep gowing you will come to a nouther island strat on get in too the outside lane turn right at the neachalls pub up n oner the bridge wach 4 speed camers on the outher side of the hill,you are on neachalls lane keep gowing till you see a snooker club on left then turn the next left by bass junkies think its phinex road cozzy center down the bottom on the left ,,hope that helps
