On remotes and operating range!

I have read reports of variable operating range for the remote and one possible cause occurs to me.....

The remote transmits a radio signal which the CCM has to be able to pick up and decode from all of the absolute mass of local clutter. Even the range of the remote for my week day cars range varies very considerably. Sometimes it works from 30 yds away, sometimes I have to be within a matter of feet, especially so in a built up area with lots of signals and other interferance to contend with. Drive out to the countryside, well away from all the noise and I can be sure of operating it from many yards away.

Whilst the Scorp is reputed not to operate on the 432Mhz band that most of these remotes use, there are certain populated areas where remotes often give problems and the breakdown services get regular calls when drivers cannot get into their cars. Sometimes this will be due to an amateur 70cms repeater operating close to the location.

So never just assume that poor range is entirely due to a problem with your remote.

.... but  does  that explain the  weird   anomaly    of  the  remote  operating  distance  increasing  by a factor of  two or   three  when you  put   it   to your temple  and  press  the  button  ? Shocked

It does work,  try  it  tomorrow.

So does simply raising the remote up in the air before pressing it. Reception or transmision range is always improved by increasing the antennas height on VHF and above.
