3rd brake light install?

Hi all,

I have just taken delivery of the third brake light (thanks Shaun) and have taken a quick look at installing it. Hence a few questions al probably obvious to anyone who has put one of these in-

I have felt all round the off side speaker and partially removed the trim panel from the off side rear corner post - I have not yet found a loose cable to feed the 3rd light. The plastic trim seems to be stuck at its lowest end. I have taken out one philips screw after pushing the seat edge back. Is there another one yet to be found to release it completely?

Do I need to take out the parcel shelf?

Is the parcel shelf marked or notched where it needs to be cut to permit the lights spade connectors to pass through?

The light has a couple of those male spade connectors,  does the loose end of cable terminate in spade connectors or might I need a bit of loom to link the two?

Harry.

the cable is there, you just have to locate it. It is a little loom made up of two wires and it is wrapped in foam and is not technically loose as it will be taped up or pushed into a gap somewhere. The cable has the two spade connectors on the ends.

With regards to fitting, the parcel shelf cover needs to come off, it is only clipped down and should pop up if you exercise enough leverage from the front. Unfortunately there is no template or marks as to where the thing needs cutting, but one you have it out, it will reveal the two captive nuts fixed into the parcel shelf.

If you fit the base of the light, you will be able to measure and weigh up where the shelf needs to be cut.

Be aware that the bolts are 8mm (I think or could be 6mm) and need to be about 3/4 inch long. The ones factory fitted are Torx headed and are a bit of a pig to get out with the screen in the way so I personally would fit standard bolts.

Other than that, once you have found the cables and cut the parcel shelf trim, clip it back and slide the main body into place and press the brake pedal and voila!!
