My car is producing 4.607% CO on the natural idle test but is OK on fast idle. It is a 2.9 12v 1996. Can anyone advise what the most likely fault is?

Can't be specific myself but I would check the following: -check MAF is clean and wiring looks ok -clean the spark plugs and check gap, replace if old -change the oil if overdue as old oil can send emissions up -check exhaust system for leaks failing that: -get obd scan to check exhaust sensors Hope this helps

Because my Scorpio of one of the older ones, will I be able to use an OBD scanner on it? I have seen several Emission gastesters on E-bay, I may buy one and try and sort the problem myself. I can probably do the power steering gaiters too if I wait for some dry weather.

Well you can read any fault codes but you need a Star scanner, available from places such as Halfords IIRC and fairly cheap. Have a look at this: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/star.htm
