24v radiator swap preparation...

Hi all,

got my mitts on a replacement radiator for the Scorp, arrived the other day, looks ok  Cool

Its used but guaranteed not to leak and it was cheap, I was pleased just to get one!

Anyhoo, decided to take the remains of the old cooler pipes off today and flush it through in readiness for the swap. Water flow wasn't amazing at first until this little lot came out:

After that came out I flushed it and reverse flushed it every which way for some time and the water ran crystal clear with good pressure. It looks like someone has used some sort of radiator repair substance on it at some point, possibly for a heater matrix issue (think that may have been why the car was broken) as the rad looks clean and dry with no damage.

I have bought some radiator cleaner stuff which is in the form of granules just to make sure it is as clean as it can be so hopefully the swap will take place soon.

Question: does anyone have any tips on the radiator swap? Anyone done the job that knows what is likely to go wrong and when?  Wink Oh and how much autobox fluid am I likely to get up my sleeve - want to be sure I have enough in to top up  Cheesy

Thanks again to Andrew, Matt and Barrie for their suggestions on places that do radiator reconditioning, will probably get the original radiator done when it comes out so I have a known good spare  Cool

Cheers guys

hi dave,

dont know where you are planning to change the rad, i did mine with the car on the ground, just jack the front up a little and the rad will slide out under the engine

be careful of the auto cooler radiator. I usually take mine off to allow a bit more room. Don't forget the fan wires and make sure you secure the plugs back onto the frame to stop the wires tangling in the fans.

Just have a small bottle of auto fluid to hand. It doesn't loose too much. I tape a latex glove or similar over the ends of the pipes to stop too much fluid coming out

watch the auto box oil cooler, the end pipes have a bad habit of snapping off when you try and take the rubber hoses off, leave it connected if possible
