I am a little confused as to the correct oil to top up the gearbox. I have never had to top up any gearbox in over 30 years of driving. I checked the level the other day when it was up to temperature and it was just visible on the dip stick which I assume is the reason I have had a slight delay for drive to engage starting from cold. Halfords seem to stock a variety and I think its the MC2 that is needed for the fords. Are any others suitable? Cheers Richa

Hi, Halfords do a trans fluid specifically for Fords. Should meet spec WSS-M2C202-B. Paul

I'm advised the correct proceedure is to check the oil with it hot, engine running and after moving the selector back and forth several times. Be warned the oil is quite expensive. I had to buy some to top up the power steering after a bit of a leak - so I made sure the oil was up to the auto box spec.. should I ever need to top that up.

thanks for the replies. I wanted to be sure of the right oil. Did not know that power steering oil was the same as the autobox oil. I have been using slick 50 in the power steering. Hope thats right it seems ok. The steering has a very slight weep of oil somewhere but not bad enough for me to start working on it so I am leaving it alone. I thought that Drexon 111 oil was for vauxhalls which was a castrol oil. There seemed to be a few different casrol oils and thats where I got a bit confused. I did see an autobox oil for fords in halfords. Cheers Richa
