having just replaced the chain guides and everything else it seems.... ( thanks to FPUK, very good service!!) i have been asked to find out if the hydraulic cam chain tensioners are rebuildable/cleanable, or do you HAVE to buy new ones....? has anyone dismantled one, are they simple to re-assemble, and is it a matter of cleaning out the accumulated crud, or is there something more...? many thanks in advance

Hello again, I am not sure of the vintage, i 'think' around '97...? I was hoping to get them stripped and cleaned, or is the problem that they wear beyond serviceable limits...? I think they are v expensive...? thanks all......

In Romania the price for a new tensioner is about 180 euros, same is the price for a chain. PS: did you change the oil pump sprocket as well ?

.... ouch ..... no worries about the sprockets, all were OK, it was just the guides that had gone, possibly because one or both tensioners were failing? As we have never heard this engine run, we are trying to eliminate most of the problems first..... cheers....
