i've slackened the tensioner and removed drive belt on my 2.5td, i can see the problem i've been having; the top mounting point for the tensioner is missing! ground away! sorted me thinks, i have a tensioner, mounting plate and spare belt bought from mr. savill for a good price (cheers steve), however, i noticed something strange; the crank pulley, or rather the ring around it with the grooves in for the belt is not attached to the pulley itself and just slips off? which is handy for cleaning the grooves, but i dont think its meant to do that, anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like a failed vibration damper, but I'm guessing.

update; new tensioner fitted, i've removed the 'loose' ring and adjusted the tension to suit, it works, a bit squealy, but working, for how long im not sure, so i think i'll get the bus to work this week until i can get a new damper unit fitted, which looking at the main site is quite involved, deep joy Undecided
on a brighter note, i just tried out a 'clay bar' on a front wing, wow, these things give an exceptionally smooth finish Grin
