It is law to have one fitted after '94 ish but its function is not tested in the MoT if the car is a diesel. So remove it and knock the monolith out with a tyre iron, chisel etc (before it falls to bits anyway and blocks the exhaust!). Refit and enjoy the petrol-like revving and rejoice in the quicker spoolup of the turbo. Why fit a turbo to an engine and then have it blow through a sponge. Did this to a Rover 420 TDi I had and the difference was amazing.... Rik

According to the literature, it does indeed have a simple one-way cat. Has anybody de-catted their diesel Scorp and did it make any difference to the MOT test? BTW, if you do de-cat the engine, then you may also want to disable the EGR valve and turn up the fuelling screw very slightly! Darren

MoT test for Diesel cars is to basically rev them to the limiter and see how much they smoke. As I understand it the Cats have to be there although they do not need to be functional. They are, as you say, simple oxidation types mainly there to reduce the smell. As I said earlier, decatted my Rover diesel (2 weeks before MoT) and took it for a good thrash before the test. It sailed through the test with no probs. If it worked for me, it should for you too... BTW my quote about the sponge. Have to say I read this on another tuning forum and thought it quite apt hence its inclusion here...
