Could be the purge valve jammed open, I used to get the hiss on mine. Valve was jammed shut when I bought the Jag, the amount of pressure the tank can hold is frightening, literally blew the cap 5ft into the air

Can't find any leaks in the tank & can't smell any petrol either, so I'm assuming it is air tight I've not had any encounters with the purge valve yet. I've located it, but how can you tell if the valve is jammed open, & if it is, can it be cleaned/repaired ?

Aye Jonny, quick reply here The Jag uses a 'rochester' valve which is basically fed a vacuum from the inlet manifold when the engine is running, opening the valve...yours sounds the same but controlled electronically. Best way to test the valve is to pull a hose and blow through it Don't use compressed air

I'm thinking either it should be closed when the car is standing or closed when running, in the Jag it's closed until it gets vacuum from the engine, mine was stuck closed . Also made the car impossible to refuel, wouldn't take more than a litre a time...apart from a possible petrol odour I don't think having no vacuum in the tank could cause running issues, believe me I went into it trying to sort the running issues on the Jag. All you can do is check whether the valve is opening/closing, maybe disconnect both lines from the tank to the evap cannister and see if air can get through them?
