When I use the kick down, there is a whirring sound, which seems infront to my right in the engine bay. The sound is something spinning fast. Is this normal? Thanks I drive the Scorpio Ultima facelift 24v cossie 2.9i.

LOL, whirring fast, could it be the engine? Pulley bearing, ATF pump, fan? It's impossible to say, could you give some more info? Does it do it if stationary and out of gear? Regards, Bruce.

Thanks for the reply. It sounds like rushing air being swirrled. Only does it on kick down. Quiet when driving normal or high revving when stationary.

Hi Keith, I'll let someone else chime in who knows more about the Cossie. But it couldn't be some kind of air disturbance could it? Regards, Bruce

i take it when u say its comming from the right, thats with u behind the wheel driving it? could be the altenator bearings giving up, start her up and stick in in N, remove the cossie 24v platic cover off the engine to gain access to the throttal body, rev the car up, you should be able to hear it then, if you cant, it may be the auto box pump, when was the oil and filter last changed, old ones of either of these can make the box whine, could be possible the sound is just being transfered...

Thanks for your replies. If I didn't know better its like a turbo spinning. You floor the pedal, hear the whooshing for a second then wam, full power and take off. Does not affect performance but wondered if this is the same on all cossies or it might be modded in some way? Cheers

ah sounds like an air leak in the intake, when u hammer the throttal into the floor pan, a valve opens in the intake system, allowing maxium air flow into the engine, take the cover off and check the 3 black rubber unions, held inplace with jublie clips, then give the whole intake a once over Matt

Cheers Matt, Checked the rubbers like you said, one slightly letting in air at the back drivers side- tightened and now much quieter. Cheers!

do you know if the intake has ever been removed? there is a very brittal T connector on the vaccume hoses towards the back under the throttal body, it normally breaks if it gets disturbed....
