Oil and filter

Hi guys, I am rather fed up with the megga bucks that you have to pay when the motah goes in for an service. So I am going to do me own oil change. Can you wise men here advise me of the type of oil filter and or finnis no that I would need to quote as I can then order this through motor factors. Also how much oil does the 2.3 need. I believe that ford formula E is the stuff. Please, I know that this subject has been done to death in the past but this oil business is so important, so again what is the rating needed for full protection. Also can you change oil to suit the seasons, i.e. at the moment a summer oil and come the autumn a winter oil?
Last of all when I have the car on the ramps is the drain plug easy to see and get too. Many thanks in advance, Ferret.

hi there

two ways of doing this......

go to a national tyre place and get them to do the dirty work. remember it needs the sae 5w-30 oil.

or as you said, do it yourself using a good quality oil (formula e is the best, imo). most good quality oil filter have the 1 way valve in them now a days.

Might be a wise move to buy a new sump plug before you do it (just in case)
They are bad for rounding off

Easy to get to though Smiley

I took the advise of scorpio man and went to my local National Tyre Centre, in Braintree.
Saw the chap in charge, who is a splendid fella. I asked him to do an oil change on my 2.3 and reminding him of the special filter and wanting Ford formula E oil.
Cant do it says the fella...we have run out of oil and wont be getting any for a couple of weeks Shocked
okeydokey said I...hmmmmmm "why"?
he said that his supplier was faffing about and he was changing to a new supplier.
What to do...went into petrol station on the other side of the road, bought half a case of Stella, drove home, popped a few tinnies and felt a bit better. Wink

On a serious note, I used Magnatec in both the Scorp and the Jag - 10w/40. Not cheap though, the cat takes 9 litres.

Should be as good as the Ford stuff, I didn't have any problems Smiley

Hi guys, does the 2.3 take the 5lts or less or do you need a tad more than the 5?
On a slightly different tack, why is beer/ale/lager so expensive?...yes I know that most of the cost is revenue but considering most of its contents is water, it is so much more expensive than petrol/oil.
If petrol became this expensive, there would be riots.

My 2.3 takes almost 5 litres at every oil change. Probably because I use Wynns engine flush & let it drip for about an hour, so almost every bit of old oil comes out  Smiley

It does state that the initial fill on a new 2.3 engine is 5.1 litres  Smiley
