I've got the 7000 RDS EON Radio unit in my Ultima, and I recently had to disconnect the battery to do a repair. Something that I've been meaning to do for ages, has been to re-code the unit so that my own Registration number shows when it is re-connected. This is a good working unit I bought off Ebay when I first got the car in Feb 2006 and which still shows the old vehicles registration. I know there IS a way to do this, but can't seem to find it on the site. Can anyone help please? Thanks.

No, unfortunately, still not there. Press Menu for 2 secs. Scroll through to get VID, but then the station preset buttons will only display numbers from 1 thru to 0 and I need to put in 7 characters, some of which are letters. Say for example P123 ABC Am I missing something? Help needed please. Thanks

Got all the instructions on how to do it, and followed it to the letter, but when I get to the bit where the radio is supposed to mute, and I can enter numbers AND letters.....zilch. Been trying it for the last half hour but it isn't going to have it anywhich way. Don't worry. I'll admit defeat on this one. it's no big deal anyway. Thanks again.

I didn't think you could put a new registration number in one that had come out of another car Always thought it was a Ford security thing

Just been out to check this on my car again and it doesn't allow you to change it now, I know I have changed it before as with the other radio out of my old car, I can only think it is something you have to do after first fitting it in the car ie after initial power up and before coding it.... Pete

Yes, I did wonder this as I was nodding off last night. Might just disconnect the battery and try again later. Will let you know.

Didn't realize this was possible, I too have a 7000 unit and when I read this thread, out to the car I went. I managed to change mine. Took a bit of trial and error though because the instructions are not exactly right at the bit you mention Spanners. Once you get to VID - - - - the instructions say "to view the current vehicle I.D, press the seek control" hey presto, it appears. It then says to tap in your key code. If you do it while the current reg is on the screen, the radio reverts back to the station I found (is this what happened to you?) what you have to do is this. Once you have pressed seek the first time, and the current reg appears, press SEEK again, and the screen reverts back to VID - - - - you can then enter your keycode and the radio mutes and the current Reg appears once again, only this time with the first digit flashing, change the digit using the volume control and move from digit to digit using the seek button. Once complete, press menu and job done. OR MAYBE NOT. Just thought I would add my 2p worth

OK. I'll try again later today. I'm sure, as you say, the instructions in the radio handbook aren't correct. Thanks Dave.

Pete/Dave: SORTED IT.... The instructions in the handbook are indeed wrong. Where I was going wrong was where the VID (Vehicle ID Display), allows you to enter your radio code, you enter your normal 4 number code. What it didn't say was to THEN press the 5 button on the set (like you have to do do when you remove it for normal maintenance/or battery off etc.) Really obvious.........once you realise it!! DOH.. Suddenly twigged, and from there it was plain sailing following your excellent instructions. So it's properly coded and with the correct reg on it now. Great stuff................Many Thanks to you both.
