How to reset km/miles to 0km/miles ?

Hi guys!

As some of you already know, I've been rebuilding my
Scorpio with a NEW 2.3DOHC Engine. I'd like to reset
my instrument panel KM display to 0km now that I hopefully
start driving with a brand new engine & gearbox.

Has anyone done that? PM will do just nicely if not wanting
to publish the information.

Yesterday I got the wiring loom for the 2.3 DOHC. Fitted it
in, had to cut & paste the ABS wiring because the plug
was totally different and had less leads in it. Probably
lost the TC, but hoping that the ABS still work.
The new wiring loom will also sort out my PATS problem
(which was already sorted with the help from KIMI).
There is no PATS in the new system. There's no wiring for
the starter motor solenoid either, that has to be sorted,
but should not be a problem... (yeah right..  Undecided )

Anyway, the km display, I'd like to get rid off the old km's
please.

hi there

the only way i know is by going to one of the mileage correction places or to ford. you need to plug into the car to change it.

in the uk, you're not allowed to 'change' it, only correct it, if a new dash has been fitted, as it's an indication of how many miles the car has done, not just the engine or gearbox.

Yes, that's what it's supposed to be - unfortunately it is not in my car anyway. It has 74thousand or
somthing like that and real km must be three or four times that. The instrument panel has been
replaced at 144thousand or something like that.

There's no law in effect in Finland on that and I always present the true history of my cars
(they usually are almost totally rebuilt  by me) when they leave my hands (IF they leave Smiley )
I'm not a pro seller, so I can do that. I sleep a lot better knowing that I've told everything
I know abou the cars I've had.

But thanks, i'll keep on searching. It would be nice to reset it, but not necessary. I may even
have to buy another one anyway, mine is type 10 and the engine is now 2.3DOHC.

Resetting the mileage would involve resetting the actual chip in the ecu unit. Afaik, or what used to be the case with eproms and sid chips etc, even microprcessor chips, they have a reset pin which would need to be momentarily connected to earth to clear them, however it would then probably need to be re programmed from a rom chip which would probably be installed elsewhere on the circuit board.  It would be a VERY complicated thing to undertake and would be best left to a superspiv.... but I'm sure it could be done....
