best ever MPG.

went down to my sis in laws at beverley again this weekend, when i reached scotch corner i looked down the A1 and it was chocca so i went straight on past the services down to croft and along the A167 then A168, caught the A19 to york, past clifton moor and along the 1069 to hull, then cut off to beverley. when i arrived i checked the fuel computer and this is the first  time i,ve ever topped 30 MPG. actual average was 32.8MPG, i was exstatic that my 9 yr. old 24 v achieved this , it,s the best it,s ever done. came home today the usual way A1, A66 then M6 back to carlisle and it was back to the usual 28MPG . does any one  else  achieve reg. 30 plus to the gallon and whats the secret as i don,t have a lead right foot and always take things as they will allow?

Keeping the speed down to around 55/60 seems to do the trick . Always get very good MPG when cruising around country roads at those speeds.

i was playing with this on my edinburgh-->birmingham and back this weekend.

@ 85 --> 27.5mpg
@70 --> 29.5mpg
@60 --> 31mpg

the other thing that affected it was fuel load and general uphill/downhill driving, made about 1mpg difference each.

dont think i have ever seen over 32  Grin

Thats superb I only average 29mpg in my diesel, the newer fly by wire sort. I only averaged about 27mpg in my old one. As for the best i did average 35mpg one fill up (mind you I didn't do any towing on that tank).

I averaged 28.7 on an 1100 mile trip to Arlon (Belgium) last week in my 24v, mind you it would have been somewhat better if there had not been a good long cruise at 115 mph at 3am on the long straight bits.

Picked my new cossie up from Essex last weekend - driving back on the Sunday, I drove 275miles and the trip computer averaged 29.2mpg.  Total fuel used was almost exactly 42 liters, so that equates to 29.13mpg.  That was averaging 80mph and air con all the way home.  Best £38 of pertrol I have ever spent!

Very pleased as it obviously shows the engine is in good shape.

I am a new member having bought a 2.3 Scorpio Ultima in May of this year.

On a 50 mile each way trip (A12 and M 25), having filled the car on leaving home and again on return my consumption was 31.88 mpg

I propose in November a 200 mile trip adding the M 20 to the above and will check fuel consumption again

Best I ever got was 40mpg doing 50mph on cruise for 5 miles in road works on M20.
Hit the same roadworks again 2 weeks later and got exactly same figures.

Get the best results when running at constant speeds.

i wonder if my cossie is bedding in ? as i said i,ve never had over 30 MPG before but in the last month it,s now done it three times on trips, mind you it has just turned 68,000mls, that,s just using the normal unleaded and not optimax or ultimate fuel.
