My handbrake is only working now and again, help!
The brake disks and calipers were changed for MOT on day I bought it, anyone any ideas as I have no mechanicle clueHuh??

Remove the rear wheels and check out the arm on top of the brake caliper attached to the handbrake cable. Get someone to pull the handbrake on as you watch the arm move. It should move to the on position, then return all the way back with the help of a return spring. Often the spindle going down into the caliper rusts up, preventing the spring returning it properly - which prevents the handbrake working normally.
 
If it sticks, you can sometimes get it working by turning it back and forth with a spanner whilst adding some grease around the spindle. A more permanent fix is to unhook the cable, the spring and ease the arm with attached spindle out of the caliper to clean it up properly and grease it with some waterproof grease.  
 
Keep the grease well away from the pads and the brake disk.
 
[EDIT] This problem is being discussed on the Scopio email list and some are suggesting that I may be wrong on matter of being able to remove this arm and its spindle to clean it up and grease it. In other words, that the caliper HAS to be stripped down in order to remove the spindle. I remain fairly sure that it comes out without need to do that, but the last time I tackled the job was 12 months ago and the memory can play tricks....
 
So can I please ask that anyone attempting this job takes a little extra care, at least until we manage to confirm this point either way?
 
Ease the spindle out gently and if it feels as if it really is held in mechanically rather than just by rust on the spindle- PLEASE DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT OUT.  
 
Does anyone have a spare rear caliper and might be able to check this out please on the bench to settle the matter?

I have just done exactly that with a spare caliper, I have found that if you remove the piston there is an assembly in the bottom of the cylinder which apears to be held in by a circlip.  Not having a pair of circlip pliers I have not attempted any further disassembly, there is a course threaded spindle in the centre of the cylinder which allows the piston to adjust to compensate wear on the pads, by what I can work out, as the handbrake is pulled on, fluid is pumped into the cylinder from the assembly behind the piston, there are holes to allow this to happen, presumably, when the handbrake is released the fluid returns back into the system through the same holes, a bit like holding the pressure with the footbrake.
I will get some circlip pliers and investigate further.
The lever will probably be removeable once the circlip is removed  but there's no way it will come out otherwise.
