I have read a couple of post's on here about de-catting to improve the power. How would this effect the mot, or do you just put the cat's back on for the test.

My 24v still passes the emission test with the cat internals removed but not by much Smiley

my 24v failed its mot on emisions So I replaced the cats and found the old ones were completely empty.
I found no difference in power when I put the new cats on.

I'll let you know how I go performance wise once my new cat's are fitted. running empty at the moment. I have timed a 0-60 a couple of times and intend to do so again on the same roads with them in . my blowing manifould will be repaired so a slight advantage will be given to the cat's on test !
I like the sound with them out though .

I am of the opinion that if your engine is in good condition and running perfectly you may just get through the emissions test with empty/no cats.
But as I said, I found no difference in performance between new and no cats Undecided

removing the cats would only give you another 5-10 bhp (unless you are the guy on ebay the other week who gained 100Bhp lol) so you would hardly notice.  i dont notice any difference but i know its there Wink

One day i'll get it on a rolling road!!  Grin

hi there
de-catting appears to make most difference to the 16valve engine when done with a proper de-cat pipe.

might be something to do with 4 cylinders going into the cat than 3 from the v6.... less backpressure on the v6? Undecided

does on mine, anyway. Wink Grin

as I said earlier in this post, I'd update you on performance with ref to the cat's. exactly the same on  2     0-60 tests. with the manifould fixed. she runs much better at tickover now with the cat's in  .
