3rd party keys - which is what?

I was given 3 keys with my 1997 2.3 Scorpio Ultima: 1) A Ford key with a red dot ... OK, I understand what that is - Non-master transponder key. 2) A key with a smaller black top than the red dot key, not marked Ford (says JMA on one side, F0-6P on the other) which opens the doors but won't start the car in the ignition. I reckon that's a 3rd party non-transponder key. 3) A Key with a big, fat balck body that looks like it will open in two, not marked Ford (says TK23 on one side, logo that might be KC with Italy underneath on the other) that opens the doors and also will start the car. Presumably the 3rd key is a 3rd party replacement transponder key. But is it a master (red) or non-master (red dot) replacement? Is there some easy way to tell? And if it's not a master, how important is it that I should get one? Thanks.

January 97, according to the date code in the VIN, if that helps. When they came just with the two black keys ... that is actually a different system, is it? Is there anything easy I can do to tell which this car should have?

I have the same set up as you, except the one that wont start the car is a transponder key, but I can’t program it. When I had the fat key (with same markings as yours) cut from the non-master, the guy in the shop said it would be tricky but he could program it as a master. It doesn’t work as a master but whether that’s because he didn’t do it right or he might have been able to do it for other fords but not a Scorpio I don’t know. As far as I’m concerned I’ve got 3 keys I can get in with & 2 that will start it – I haven’t bothered about a master.

OK, thanks. I don't suppose I'm likely ever to need another key, so I'll scrub that off the to-do list.
