As it now looks as though I've got to replace the steering rack (again ), it gives me the opportunity to replace the power steering pump (bit noisy when cold) with an almost brand new one that I picked up recently I've never replaced the pump before, so started reading through the procedure on the site http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/steering/PASPumpDOHC.pdf Just one part of the replacement that I'm not quite sure about though....instruction 9, the bit about needing a special tool to replace the union sealing ring Do you need this tool ? or can it be done without it ? Any advice please

Don't know the answer Jonny but looks to me as though it just stretches the ring over the thread so it doesn't get damaged, in which case some tape on the thread and something tapered like the nozzle of a mastic gun might do.
