Hi, I would like to buy navi MFD from Ford Galaxy and use it in my Scorpio. Do you have any experience? My main problem is that I do not know if I can connect it to CD changer and remote control.

OK,

where to start....

The MFD unit will not fit directly into the aperture of the Scorpio. The Galaxy has a double DIN hole whereas (and despite many advertising otherwise!!) the Scorpio along with the Mondeo, Fiesta etc. have 1.8 DIN apertures. The two photos below show that they do fit though although quite a lot of the metalwork behind the radio had to be removed.

There are also two types of MFD unit; one which was manufactured up to December 2000 and one which ran from January 2001 to September 2005. The latter used the "DX" version of the Blaupunkt software and the earlier one used "non DX" the earlier one does not have postcode recognition etc...

The rear wiring connections are as follows:

All of the connectors on the back of the MFD will fit but you will need conversion adapters from the Scorpios loom to the new plugs like this one:

The cd changer cable in the scorpio will not fit and will either need a new plug fitting at the radio end (which is what I did on my travelpilot) or you can fit a mini ISO plug cable which was fitted in the Focus

(from about 1999) If you get a cable however, it will need extending as the focus changer was under the seat. The steering wheel controls will not work (or at least I never got mine working and eventually took the control off and replaced the cowling with one off an executive model which didn't have the steering controls. This is probably more down to the fact that the RIM (Radio interface module) in the Scorpio is not compatible with the MFD (or the Travelpilot which I have in mine.)

The wiring for the travelpilot is very similar to the MFD as is shown here:

Why do you want to fit an MFD anyway?

Hi,
thank you very, very much for your advice.

I have wanted the MFD because I have seen in my brother's car VW Passat and I like it. It is good thing and I have found very good offer. But now, I think I will not buy it. It is complicated and I do not want to loose the steering wheel controls.

I would tend to agree with you. I had one a while ago and it does need some hacking of the dashboard to fit it and the wiring isn't that easy to sort out.

I did fit the travelpilot in the end which is a 1.8 DIN unit but even that needed some work to get it working and as I said, the steering controls don't work at all. Although not something I ever used to be honest!

Really? Honestly, I do not know what to do without them. It is more comfortable.

When I think about it, it is a pity that Ford never used navi in Scorpio. It is one of the last parts which I miss.

These MFD navi systems would be the answer to the problem of having the horrible sucker mount on the windscreen and having to put the whole sat nav gadget I have with ariel into hiding when parking and it also looks very smart, the only thing missing is the TV and DVD that the Beamers have!!   LOL

Baz you haven't got an MFD unit going Cheap have youHuh

fraid not Bob, however you can get the adapter cables and mods from Germany which will enable you to fit DVD and freeview DVB tv to the MFD units...... I did have all the stuff at one time!
