Heater Controls

Gentlemen - may I have your help please. My air distribution rotary control does not distribute the air flow. I have hot air going to the screen and coming from the face vents no matter at which setting the rotary control is at. I cannot get the air flow to the footwells or to the screen (defrost) only option. The manual shows that the controls on the panel are pull out but mine don't appear to want to move and I don't want to force them. Is there an easy way to get them off and also which side should the panel be levered off from. How does the distribution control work ?. In other words what causes the airflow to change. Are there flaps that open and close which could be jammed in mine. Your thoughts would be appreciated - its getting cold out there. Alastair

Go to THIS page to start with. The diagrams are for a LEFT hand drive so bear that in mind. The links on the left of the page at the bottom are most likely to help you. The 'tang' on a right hand drive car is nearest the steering wheel adjacent to the heated window switches. If you have climate control the first thing to do is carry out a re-set and see if that cures the fault. The air distribution to the footwells is controlled by motors. If you remove the control panel make sure the ribbon connector is properly secured before refitting.

Hi Simmo Thanks for that - Now sorted as far as air to the footwells are concerned. Bit of playing around with the rotary control and remembering that all the upper vents must be closed completely or air will not be transferred to the lower vents. That and not having bits of trim partially blocking the footwell vents. I would still like to remove the rotary control and face plate if I could find the idiot's step by step guide to doing so. Thanks Alastair

Hi Simmo No not quite like that one. That seems to be for a climate control panel with "auto" and two controls. I have the panel with three: - Hot/ cold, Outside/ inside air blower ( and a/c) and Rotary air distribution Your attachment also shows, I think, the panel being removed by levering from the top with the controls in place. Somewhere there is an illustration of the "three" control panel which starts with the controls being "pulled off" then acccess to the control panel by two screws. Thats the help I was looking for from anyone who has actually removed these control knobs because mine don't appear to "pull off" and I don't want to force them. Thanks for taking the time though Regards Alastair

Just be careful but they can "stick" but make sure that ther is NOT a little release button on the underside of the control . Others with just A/C may be able to help more than I have .
