Unidentified light

Finally collected my first Scorpio the other day While giving it a run out I noticed a strange warning light which came on just below the '7' on the rev counter. It seems to come on intermittently and I haven't a clue what it is for- anyone know It is a bit of a beast but runs great. The only obvious problem is the temp and fuel gauges are stuck on half-way, so am I correct in assuming this is because of dodgy soldering in the dash display? Hopefully this will turn out to be a teeny issue as I'm driving the car to Spain on Thursday Ta John

The stop pin for the rev counter needle is below the 7, if it's fallen out you may see the dash illumination through it.

How stupid am I? I had a look this morning and realised it must have been sunlight reflecting off the pin, which has a shiny base. Thanks for your help! John

John, have you tried an instrument reset for the sticking needles? Press the odometer reset button for about 5 seconds. When you next turn on the ignition all the needles will flick round & reset themselves - worth a try. Further details here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm Dave

I'd already tried the reset procedure, but guess what...both gauges are now working perfectly! It could be one of three things that happened today- I polished the car interior, renewed the road tax, and the sun was out. Assuming the latter is the most logical explanation (confirming the suspicion that the solder joints are too close together and are shorting out) then the fact that I live in Spain leads me to conclude that the problem will probably now go away all by itself. So, anyone else out there with the halfway gauge problem-you know what to do Ahh, the joys of motoring

Hi all Me and my Scorpio are now in sunny Spain! Since picking up the car a week ago I have driven 1100 miles, including 850 miles from Bridlington to Mazarron at an average speed of 62mph at 31.6mpg. The last 300 miles were done with the cruise control set at 85mph, and the mpg would have been better but for an hour of slow traffic approaching Portsmouth, and 200 miles of sub-zero temperatures from Bilbao to Madrid. In fact the mpg was increasing during the last bit! The only problems I had with the car are wind noise from the corner of the drivers window and the cd changer is a bit jumpy. Everything else works perfectly... Not bad for a '95 Ultima bought for £172.54 off Ebay!!
