Correct Battery!

Can anyone help with the correct battery spec for a 2.9 12v? I believe it's critical to buy the correct one but am struggling to find details.

Have a read of THIS which gives all the relevant details. Do not attempt to go for a cheap,lower rated unit as these cars require a lot of power to start them.  THIS site may help.

More trouble!! I was advised at fords that the 095 could be replaced with the 097 which is what I bought. Three days later and the battery has drained which makes me think I've got bigger issues....
My last battery also drained, I went out for a reasonable drive to charge it up, came home disconnected it to see if it was the battery that was the problem. Reconnected it a couple of days later and found the battery had lost its charge to a level that wouldn't start the car. I therefore thought that it was battery. Could my alternator be damaging my battery? or can you suggest anything else that may cause this kind of problem?

Hi DippyD, It is possible that the alternator could cause damage to the battery. Luckily the alternator can easily be checked. Get hold of a volt meter and place it on the battery whilst the engine is running, this should give a reading of around 14volts. If it doesn't, chances are the alternator is shot. If it does then its down to good old Scorp electrics again. Good luck mate!!

Check it with an accurate voltmeter, they can be had for around a fiver at Maplins etc.. or you could even use the built into the dash voltmeter in the dash diagnostics system.
The batteries static voltage (engine off, everything else off) should be around 12.5 to 12.8
With the engine running it should be between 13.8 and 14.4v.
All as measured across the battery posts.
Personally I would suspect something draining your battery when the car is stood, rather than a faulty battery or charging system. Can you wire a low wattage lamp (dash panel bulb) in series with the battery - disconnect one battery terminal and wire the lamp between battery and the removed terminal. With everything turned off and doors closed ad a short across the lamp for a few minutes [1], take off the short and the lamp should NOT light up.
If it lights up, you have something still drawing current and flattening the battery.
[1] Wait for the interior lights to go out.
There is what is called a battery saver relay. This is supposed to open after around 20 minutes, interupting the supplies to the interior lights, boot light and glove box light etc.. The idea is that if one of these have been left on accidently, the saver will prevent them flattening the battery.
