Facelift headlight upgrade

If you are planning to do the mod for the headlamps, which involves doing the lens inserts in black. When reassembling the lens and glass, make sure you use POLYURETHANE based sealant and NOT SILICONE. Silicone isn't anywhere near as strong and will not hold the glass in properly. Meaning that your lamp glass could drop out unexpectadly. This is.... i mean, could be, very embarrasing!

I used silicone on mine and not had any problems in the two years since done, I did give them a few days to cure properly before reassembly though. I suppose the polyurethane would be better if you are in a rush

Silicon did mine too even after a bash which cracked the glass, near side one is still ok cos I checked it as I was worried about this problem too, the other thing I was cautious about was weather the paint would flake off after a while, so I used Finnigans black smooth Hammerite, it has worked a treat. The offside one has been replaced new now and you can't tell the difference. hth pete

I take it you guys dont buy Poundland silicone then Funily enough im going for the facelift look quite soon (only doing mine in body colour with a bit of extra metal flake) & was wondering if you chaps could reccomend a brand of sealent/adhesive ? As octaine said ,it would be bloody embarassing if you pull up to a show with one lense missing

| In my job we quite often have contact with glaziers (working in a school) usualy they have spare bits of silicon which is kindly made available to us ("in case of emergencies", you understand) I think it was Dow Corning 794 Plastic and Glass Silicone that I used. hth pete ps: we don't see them very often fortunately,

Bought my ployurethane sealant from a body shop specialist. Not sure what its called, it was about £8. Can be used for bodykits, windscreens and even bonding metal parts. Sticks like s##t to a blanket. I was a bit pikey first time round and used a cheap black silicone gutter sealant! My lens was hanging out as i pulled up on my drive! Luckily it didn't drop right out and cost me another headlight!
