Exhaust mods

The exhaust on my 12v is looking a bit ropey. Not blowing yet though. I've bought a universal back box to fit which shouldn't be too much of a problem. However, i was thinking about having the 2 large centre silencers cut out and straight pipe welding in their place. My mates bodyshop says he can do this for me. Anyone done a similar thing? How noisy will it be, will there be any running problems, or maybe extra power? Also, if this proves to be shi*e anyone know where you can buy exhaust components. Most places have no idea. Are they same as later Granadas?

Hi octane,i did this with an old mk3 12v.Basically swapped the back box for a nice stainless jobbie, which wasnt as loud as i was expecting.then the r/h centre box started to blow so i took a recip saw to it & removed the other one while i was there & sleeved the gap with some tubing. As a result the neighbours stopped talking to me (no bad thing) as it was really loud.Even boy racers said it was too much .As for power !!! Well i didnt really notice that much of a difference. It did pull through the gears a bit better, but no more noticable than say fitting a K&N.If driven carefully though i did notice an improvement in fuel consumption.Went from 17 mpg to 19 (around town).HTH...craig
