Battery drain through fuse 17

I have a 1995 Scorpio 24v - if the car is left for a few days the battery drains flat. I have discovered that there is a drain of about .7 amp through fuse 17 - this is described as "electronics" in the manual. Does anybody know what fuse 17 protects and whether it would be OK to use the car without this fuse? I would be very grateful for any help.

Richard, I'm afraid I don't know the answer BUT if you look at This site, which IS for the Scorpio although it says Sierra you may be able to trace it. The page I've linked shows the diagram for the ABS and you will see the fuses listed,by number,at the top of the page. The numbers are very close to the one you want so I can only suggest you trawl through the pages unless, in the meantime, a more knowlegable member can provide the answer. UPDATE. Found it. Here. It's the clock!!!.

Also page 4 of the anti theft alarm pages: http://www.carsoft.ru/avtorepair/sierra_el.html Does the alarm work? Don’t know how much power would be used if it’s going off but sounder has been disabled – sounder is behind the battery.

I had a little component in the instrument panel that smouldered gently and eventually blew fuse 17.May have been a PCB fault,I changed the panel to cure the problem. This may bear no relation to your problem, but that fuse certainly covered part of the instrument panel.A good wiring diagram that is big enough to see would throw more light on the problem.

Thanks to Simmo and Tompion for wading through the wiring diagrams to find fuse 17! I haven't had a chance to check the effect of removing this fuse on the clock/alarm, but I'll let you know as soon as I have.

Richard, If, as Tompion says, the alarm horn, behind the battery, has been disconnected it is usually because of a fault with the system. A prime suspect is the bonnet switch situated on the crossmember adjacent to the bonnet release mechanism. Worth a check whilst you're at it. . Good luck, Mike.
