I've just spent the evening welding our old friend the rotten chassis legs on an Estate. This is the second one i've done, I never paid much attention to the first one but this one has definitely rusted from the spot welds, from the centres out Its all original, nothings been repaired before, now I had a chat with Geoff_W a while back about a similar thing with the welding on the rear arches which if i remember correctly he reckoned was the cause of the rust problem we see in that area.. Do we have dodgy welding on the Scorpio then??

Didn't Ford have a 15 year warranty on such things, rust penetration etc? ok I know, it would probably be asking too much wouldn't it..... only a thought Pete

Yeah give it a go, you've had the corrosion protection checks and rework done at the FMD at the scheduled intervals over the last decade and a half haven't you ........

I suppose if we had all that done and paid for it they would be more than happy to put it right

Evening Stuart Interesting couple of points here chaps, if you did get the corrosion checks done and the problem appears to be from the weld, how about a small claims court case. Or at least look at the implications. We must have a welding expert on site, temperature set to high? Bubbles in the weld? My view on the rear arches is that the problem comes from the way the two panels are joined, which is why more and more manufacturers use high bond adhesives, once you weld life is going to get tricky there. If you did look at doing something with heat I suspect brazing would be a better bet. Scorpio had a number of bleeding edge techniques and solutions done for the best possible reasons, including one of the first uses of environmentally friendly water based paints. http://rpaxton.co.uk/problem_solving2.html look familiar anybody, cant say that the report relates to our Scorpios, but have a look at your paint finish sometime. Geoff
