Those who have read my problems on no gears will see that I have sorted it all and now am mobile again. What did come to light was what i think was the reason for the bottom part of the crank arm breaking. This is a ball and socket joint, and once it was on the workshop bench it was obvious that it had seized solid thus giving no movement at all, this I think put undue strain on the arm leading to the failure. Migth be worth checking next time you have the car jacked up.
