Heated Front Windscreen

We had a decent frost here this morning so I thought I'd see if the heated front 'screen on the spares Ultima would work. It only cleared about 2/3rds of the passenger side and nothing on the drivers side. Both fuses are okay, power is getting to the terminals at either side of the 'screen and the multimeter shows continuity across both the terminals on the 'screen. Am I right in thinking this must be an internal fault such as broken elements? If it had been okay, I was going to have a go at removing it to possibly fit in the TD.

You are about right Jim,the elements in my Tranny van are slowly but surely diminishing in efficiency.Good luck with the removal, you wont half need some patience, and possibly a pair of the finest kid gloves!

Hi gozz, if it's only half working there's not much point in removing it anyway! I've managed the last 20 odd years with an ice scraper in the winter so I don't suppose it matters much really, was just a thought as it's there.

OK, potentially stupid question but mine windscreen doesn't clear either - nothing.
checked fuses, relays & power to cables at bottom of both sides of the screen - just wondering where the earth connection might be to see if that is the problem  Huh

Just to let you know there are four cables to the screen two bottom and two top ones under the trim pannel (auto windscreens had to repair my top one as corroded) maybe the heaters do half and half drivers/passengers Huh.

Ah! I did wonder if there should be any more wires, I'll check the top two and see if they're okay, thanks for that a11mcr

The earth for the windscreen is at the botton on both sides .... you should be able to see them  if you lift the bonnet

The location of the cables is shown HERE.  The screen is 'divided' and each side is controlled by a fuse.  38 Drivers side and 41 passenger side in the auxillary, passenger side, fusebox. Relay 18 in the same box also covers it.  Smiley
