Browns Gas or HHO!

I was just wondering how many of you had heard of or might have tried 'Browns Gas' in the Scorp? This is the process some of you may have heard of as the unlikely process of burning water it your engine instead of fuel. For those who might never have heard of it, 'Browns Gas' is the gas produced by simple electrolysis of water H2O and highly explosive. Instead of the usual method of collecting the hydrogen and oxygen resulting from electrolysis separately, the two gases are collected as one, a mix of highly inflammable hydrogen and oxygen called 'Browns Gas'. This can then be fed into the engines manifold to be burnt along with the petrol air mix. A sealed electrically insulated container houses two electrodes, filled with water and the a 12v supply from the car performs the electrolysis. The HHO gas then bubbles out with its only escape being via a pipe into a second sealed container. The second container, again filled with water, has the gas piped into the bottom via a pipe, rising to the surface then exiting via a second pipe leading to the engines inlet manifold. The purpose of this second container being to act as a flame trap against back fires. The electrolysis process is suggested to consume around 12 amps and is supposed to save lots of fuel. Masses of free information on the internet about the system - BUT BE WARNED THE PROCESS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS due to the highly explosive nature of the gas produced. It is the same gas produced in your battery, when it is overcharged and the reason why such care is needed not to create a spark near a battery which has been/is on charge.

Like this you mean ?..... http://www.easywatercar.com/2books.htm Found it a while back & thought it was interesting, but maybe a tad hazardous to your health

Just like that, but no need to buy their books. There are some wild claims made, but it all seems to rely on less total energy being used for the electrolysis than is actually produced by the device. Certainly there seem to be no disputes over its use for producing gas for small gas cutting and welding jobs instead of using and storing oxy/acetalene.

The subject of whether it works is very controversial. The scientific evidence is that it cannot possibly work, in as much as energy in can at best only equal energy out less any losses in the process. Put 100 watts of energy into the electrolysis process and even were it 100% efficient, you could at best get 100w out of the burning gas in the combustion chamber. Remember the 100watts of energy for the electrolysis process has to be generated by the alternator, turned by the engine, from the burned fuel - a process which itself is highly inefficient. The only way it could possibly save fuel is to improve the efficiency of the combustion process as fuel is burned within the engines cylinders. It seems lots have added such a system and report fuel savings of 25 to 50% from both diesel and petrol engines, despite the scientific community saying it cannot possibly work.

I have done a little more research into this, trying dig out the theory from the chaff. I'm still no further forward as to whether it works or not -despite some very convincing information out there. I've found some quite detailed information on how to DIY build the system to supplement rather than completely replace normal fuel. One of the best document I've found is a well written PDF. Would anyone like a copy of this particular file sent to their email address?
