On going to check oil level in the diff (P reg Cosworth) discovered that A/ it had never been removed since built by the look of it and B/ it has been well and truly rounded off inside. It is going to be dmaged on removal, so thought simple job to buy new one.. Ford tell me that "plug magnetic" is no longer serviced. Any ideas on replacement?

If the socket is rounded out it is probably due to someone using an allen key instead of a Torx bit to try and undo it If is was me, I would weld a bolt to the plug ( or get a garage to do it ) and then you have something to put a spanner or socket on it to undo it. If you want to replace it then it's going to be a request in the 'parts wanted' on this site or breakers yards. There is always the chance a FMD may have one on the shelf, or try a diff recon company - bound to have one.

I once attempted to remove the one on my last Granada to check the oil level. I could not get the car up in the air high enough to gain enough leverage to shift it and had to take it to my friendly local garage for them to put it on the lift. They said they also struggled a bit to loosen it - sp expect it being similaraly tight.
