Exhaust Repair

Hi all, just need some generic exhaust repair help.
Exhaust has corroded on the outside part of a bend in the pipe, it doesn't appear to be too big so I'm thinking a repair should put off getting a replacement for a couple of months at least (my gf is a student 
Does anyone recommend what to kit to use? I see halfords have a kit for 14.99 but I know you can get kits that you can wire a bandage type thing to the exaust with putty that seals nicely when it goes off.
Any help much appreciated.

£14.99 seems a bit much for a repair kit 
May as well put that towards a new exhaust...unless you are selling the car soon 
In days gone by, when money was tight I've used the exhaust bandage kit which should be under £5 and exhaust putty which again should be under £5.
I've also used ( on straight bits of exhaust ) beer cans, jubilee clips and Pyruma fire cement.
Have you found out the cost of the part which needs replacing or is it going to be the whol;e lot ?

I'm thinking of using the exhaust bandage kit and the putty that you mention. Holt Gun Gum putty and bandage should hold it back well enough. Only problem is that being on a bend, the repair may not be as straight forward or as neat compared to a repair done on the straight part of the pipe.

I bought the bandage kit and it's worked a treat! A lot better than I thought actually and it seems to hold exteremely well. Holts packet says should last a life time and will pass MOT's as well, if it does, bonus!

I've always found Gun Gum to an absolutely useless product.... 
.... There is no way you can apply it with an applicator, it just sticks to it. So you have to use your fingers & it just sticks to them as well, which means having to use water, which weakens the paste
When you finally get the hole covered & have smoothed it off (again using copious amounts of water), you let it dry for a few hours & then off you go 
A couple of days later, what do you hear ?....yep, the exhaust blowing again  ....& why ?
Because the Gun Gum has hardened, contracted (probably due to all that water) & gone as weak & brittle as broken egg shells, & starts falling off in clumps
May as well use play-doh 
Anyway, if by some miracle, the stuff does actually hold until it gets to the MOT station....then any good tester would tap it with a small hammer, watch it disintegrate & then fail the car....
....I know if I were an MOT tester, then that's what I would do ......

I didn't need to use any water, I smoothed the paste on with the cardboard from the packaging. Gooey stuff it is but I was quite liberal with it. Under the bandage and then again on top. It's been hardening over night and she's taking it out this morning. I'll have a look tonight and see how it's holding

For a Scorpio or a Ka ?
£ 350 is the cheapest quote I've had for a 2.0 Lt Ultima, from a well known exhaust fitting outfit.

Picked up a full system ( less the cat ) for my 2.3 estate for £50 by buying bits from ebay - middle section for £10 - was only fitted to a car for a couple of weeks before the car was written off, front flexi section and back box both for £40 brand new. Will have to buy the clamps and rubber mounts but only a few quid for those. Don't actually need it yet but couldn't say no at those prices.

Cat replacement supplied and fitted has now risen from 150 to 199 after they found out it was diesel.
Still, my repair work has done well so far.
No more blowing and it still feels solid (sounds like a line from an adult film!)
